Minister’s Letter – Free stuff on the internet
Have spare some time over the Christmas/New Year period? Why not read a good Christian book? You can download the following, legally, for free.
Pretty much all of D.A. Carson’s writing. The blog post below links to several free PDFs. Why not start with the The Difficult Doctrine of the Love of God or From the Resurrection to his Return: Living Faithfully in the Last Days? Both are reasonably short. The blog also links to a page on the Gospel Coalition website which lists everything he has written (up to 2014), a good proportion of which is available to download. andynaselli.com/d-a-carson-publications
143 free books from the Desiring God website. You’ll find every book by John and Noel Piper, as well as some others. John Piper says some unhelpful things (in my view, his understanding of our emotional response to God tends to undermine Christian assurance), but he writes a lot of good things too. desiringgod.org/books/all
Of course, for those who prefer to listen or watch rather than read, the list of free material is endless. One interesting page I recently discovered was the ‘courses’ section of the Gospel Coalition website. You can work your way through videos and lectures on almost anything to do with the Christian faith. It’s an incredible collection. thegospelcoalition.org/courses
