Minister’s Letter – Awaiting the Inevitable

Awaiting the Inevitable

As I write this, I am at home waiting to recover from COVID-19! It’s taken two years for the virus to visit our house, and despite our vigilance in getting our jabs and following all the public health advice, its arrival has a sense of inevitability about it. When I was diagnosed, one thing that surprised me was how calm I was. No doubt the Holy Spirit was feeding me with a sense of peace, but there was also the confidence which comes with knowing we’d done everything possible to foster a positive outcome.

As Christians we deal with certain inevitabilities. Hebrews 9:27 tells us that “people are destined to die once, and after that face judgment”. No matter how long we are kept waiting, it is inevitable that we will each face this future. Is it possible to be certain of a positive outcome? Yes, for it’s also inevitable that “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:3), and it’s inevitable Jesus will return, bringing a reward for us with him (Revelation 22:12).

As the pandemic continues, we have no way of knowing its future course, but as Christians we are blessed with knowing for certain what God has promised. Let’s move forward with confidence!
