Minister’s Letter – a notable anniversary
Last Friday marked 10 years since the extensions to our church building were opened. 10 years of enjoying improved facilities while paying off the bank loan in good time. Let’s give thanks to God for those who made the improvements happen, and for the ministry that has been enabled in the decade since.
As I think back upon the generosity of 10 years ago, a question comes to my mind. What can I invest in now for a dividend in 10 years’ time? I’m thinking specifically about investing in the Christian faith. Or, what can I do now that I will be glad to have done in 10 years’ time?
Perhaps: Set up a regular pattern of giving to ministry and mission, resolve to read through the whole Bible, change career for the sake of family and church life, enrol in that biblical studies or ministry course, finally read that book that promises to extend your love and knowledge of God, seek reconciliation with that person you’re currently estranged from, bring a stubborn sin before God, seeking his help in defeating it.
Of course, any deliberate steps we take are made in tandem with God’s own work within us, “for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” (Philippians 2:13). Pray our next 10 years will produce many reasons to give thanks to God!
