10th Dec 2023 – Minister’s Letter: Practicing Godliness

In Colossians 3 Pauls says, “12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

Christmas can be a stressful time. There is a lot to do to finish off our work demands, buy presents and food, cook and prepare for the day. It is often hot. We may be gathering with family members we find it hard to get on with and so on. There are holidays to arrange and kids to manage. It can test our patience.

Can I ask you to read the quote above slowly and carefully. Identify situations where it may be hard to stick to these instructions ahead of time, then work out a strategy to respond as Jesus would want. Where you might naturally react badly to a testing situation think of an alternative positive way of handling it.

Christmas is a season where we look for peace and joy. Let us be agents of peace in a troubled world as we practice being godly to honour the Prince of Peace.
