Thanks for subscribing to our weekly news. Hope you have kept cool on these boiling hot days. 11 days until Christmas, and only 18 days until 2018! How did we get to be so far in the future? Sheeesh!
Giving in 2018
As the new year is just around the corner, it’s a good opportunity for us to think about what our financial commitment will be like next year—and also to make sure we don’t drop our giving for the final month of 2017! Consider the following chart; which box best describes you in 2017, and can you move one step to the right in 2018?
During the past week someone asked me (Marty) “What if you are giving regularly and generously already?!” My answer: “Get beside someone else and encourage them to consider their own financial commitment!” It’s not just the minister who ought to be encouraging this type of reflection!
Of course, other disciplines can be inserted into the above diagram, such as church attendance and time spent in Bible reading and prayer. Now is a good time to think about what might be different in your walk with Christ in 2018.
This Sunday is Christmas Carols in Waitara –starting at 5pm
We are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone coming to our Carols service that is happening this Sunday, the 17th December.
All our activities including the Carols service will be being held outside the front of the church building on the verandah and grass area, and we invite families to bring along their picnic rug to join in. Chairs will be provided as well. If it’s raining, we will move the celebrations inside the building. Family festival and activities will begin at 5pm and the outdoor service will be at 6pm.
Our team of many helpers are busy getting everything ready, and it’s not too late to put your hand up as and extra helper. Just talk to Emily or Emma via the church office. If you might be interested, please email the Church office email@example.com
Please share our Facebook page with all your social media contacts and let people know what’s happening here in Waitara over Christmas season.
James Sermon Series
Last Sunday we started a series in the book of James, but then we break that series for Christmas and January before picking up this series in James again in late February. Peter Ong and family (some of our link missionaries) will be with us on Sunday Feb 11.
How about you read through the book of James a number of times over the summer? Short study guides on James will be available in the foyer and they will also be on our website for downloading. Bible study leaders may wish to consider starting this series in February, as the bulk of James sermons will be preached next year.

G4K – Games For Kids
If you know children in Years 4-6 next year, perhaps ask them to join us in 2018 for Games For Kids. Starting next year on Friday afternoons in school term, the group will meet from 3.30pm until 5.30pm. This will be a fun time with friends, board games, a lesson from the Bible and will include afternoon tea. $30 per term. Please register online or email your registration interest to the church office: firstname.lastname@example.org
Katherina Bilko and daughter Ruby have found a suitable unit to rent which is near both school and work. They are very thankful to God for this answered prayer!
Prayers for this week
Pray for residents and church members rebuilding after the defeat of the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. Pray for a lengthy peace to follow.
Give thanks for our local aged-care facilities. Pray for those known to you who live in aged-care, that their needs might be adequately met.
Give thanks for our worship service held at the Masonic Towers nursing home, that those attending might be blessed by this time together.
Pray for our services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Pray that visitors might receive a warm welcome, and that the gospel will be heard.
Pray for those for whom Christmas is a lonely time. Pray that they might be able to enjoy some company over the holiday.
Pray for those missionaries linked with us who are preparing Christmas messages and services. Pray their efforts will have impact.
Blessings from your team at church,
Marty, Emily, Nick, Richard, Matt, and Vicki
